16-Bit Ms-Dos Subsystem Error

How to fix 16-Bit MS-DOS Subsystem Error in Windows XP

This is a common problem for Windows XP nowdays. It seems that files become corrupt or even a virus/spyware article deletes these files, rendering MS-DOS based applications not being able to run at all. This is noted when you cannot access Windows applications and when uninstalling programs you receive an error:

16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem path to the program that you are trying to start or install C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

You can also encounter errors in these files as well config.nt and Autoexec.nt

These errors are caused by files either being missing or corrupt:
Config.nt
Autoexec.nt
Command.com

These files are easily replaced and it saves you the hassle of doing a reinstall in place, or chkdsk /p which still doesn’t install the files properly.
Your can download them from HERE it’s a simple download and extract into the Windows\System32 folder, if you are prompted to overwrite files click OK, as the files you will have will be corrupted or damaged.

Microsoft have a page about this error, so it is known to Microsoft as being a problem. This page is located HERE.

The quick fix I provided was a quick fix, and will save you time, but if you wish to look at Microsoft’s guide and follow the instructions, is the same, but without the quickness.

The error seems to be caused by a Trojan Horse virus and it is recommended you follow this tutorial of www.rctempire.com , on How to keep your pc feeling like new.
HERE. This will help get rid of virus’s and other spyware which could be hampering your computer performance.

Hope this guide will help you repair the damage to your pc, and allow you to uninstall and reinstall programs.
