There are many tool on the internet some helping you to remove spyware and others to let you remove spyware BUT also allow certain products onto your pc, thus defeating the purpose of these "anti-spyware" products.

Ways to avoid spyware.
There are various ways to avoid spyware in this day and age, there are free programs avaliable to clean spyware.

AdAware - This program removes Adware and Spyware, this program is FREE and is also available in a Professional Edition which you pay for.
Spybot Search & Destroy - This program allows the removal of spyware and adware also, this program is FREE and you can donate to keep this project free on the Spybot Home Page.
Microsoft AntiSpyware - This program removes spyware, adaware, trojan traces and many more. This program is FREE and helps combat spyware head on like the other programs.
XCleaner - This program removes spyware, adware, program nasties and many more. This program is FREE and helps keep your computer clean of spyware.
Bazooka Spyware Scanner - This program helps to get rid of the deeper spyware programs and is a manual removal tool, but the website link it give is very imformative and well laid out so it is easy to remove these deep spyware programs.

Web Browsers
Also consider the use of a new internet browser. IE(Internet Explorer) is a built in Browser to Windows and is very vunerable to hackers attacks and spyware. I recommend using another browser such as:
Mozilla FireFox - This browser is a very well known browser and has a built in pop-up blocker and also has EXTENSIONS, these extensions are used for more compatability with websites and even have built in music players. Also FireFox is very hard to aquire spyware though due to its protective measures and constant development.
Netscape - This browser is based on the Mozilla Open Source development and is a very comprehensive broswer, with built in email facilites and many more features, even a pop-up blocker. This program is very developed and is very interesting to have as a full client.
Opera - This browser is very different and looks sleek and different as i said. This browser is known to be terrible and full of pathetic items but i aint too sure it looks ok to me. Also it seems to have a seperate mail client which you can download too.
